Page Fold| Page Fold Readership
The page fold is basically a metaphor for how people who read a blog post or a news article mostly only read
the first page or whats at the top of the scroll. It's where the page folds on a web site. Hence the name page fold. In digital reading the page fold is the part above
the part where you scroll on a screen downwards. The page fold is a crucial term in digital marketing and digital copywriting.
This is because digital copywriters and digital marketers including Search engine optimization
specialists or SEO's are naturally tasked with finding ways to get readers (force?) to read below the page fold.
Digital Copywriting Questions Page Fold| Page Fold Readership
1. What are the top considerations for crafting the best meta titles and descriptions? How would you implement them?
I'd Keep it up to 160 characters.
Use active voice and make it actionable. By this I mean adding calls to action such as "Read the best article here
Use a keyword that is reserached using SEO tools like MOZ, AHrefs, SEMRush.
Be specific. Use specs if needed.
Make sure it matches the content of the page.
Make it unique.
2. What is the importance of visuals in an article? What makes for compelling images?
Visuals are very important. Back in the day, many blog posts and articles didn't have them and that was expeced. However, nowadays they are for an array of important reasons. Compelling images have a few undeniable traits. They are clear and not out of focus. They're photoshoped. cropped, and toned to fit the page well and the ambiance of the article. Finally, if the article has a original picture taken with a high quality DSLR camera, that helps the originality and autority of the blog post. It ensures that the photo wasn't just copied off of the internet.
3. In your opinion, what percentage of readers actually finishes reading an article they had started reading? What factors could increase or decrease that percentage?
I'd say only about 30 percent. There are more than a few things that a person can do to get users to scroll down the page more. One of them is getting read of "horizontal white space" at the bottom of the
page that you are writing. Another action that should be taken is to use a backgground in the back of the page. This shows the reader that the entire pattern is being accounted for and that the page looks scrollable. Another method is to encourage your readers to scroll in the copy of the text. This only works if it's a sales pitch though that can be worked in the the main body of the text above the page fold. One more way is to add a please scroll graphic. Write " More here" at the bottom of the fold. Or use an image. Another way is not to force users to scroll horizonatally. This gives them the imporession that the page isn't scrollable vertically. To fix this. use viewport code so that the page fits to the device screen. Finally, my person favorite way is to use HTML anchor text. Code in a pound # sign in a an ahref link in the above the page fold link. Then create an id to link to at the bottom of the page fold. Wirte Click to Scroll if you wish so users know that the hyperlink will "portal" you to the bottom of the page.
