An app store is a kind of digital distribution platform for computer software known as applications,
usually in the context of mobile devices. It is also referred to as an app marketplace, app catalog, or
app store. Applications offer a particular set of features that do not, by definition, involve the computer
operating itself. For instance, there might be a mobile app that is tied to complex software intended for
personal computer use. Although apps are often made to function on a particular operating system these days,
such as iOS, macOS, Windows, Linux, or Android, mobile carriers used
to have their own portals where users could download apps and other relevant media material.

Any digital storefront designed to facilitate the search and evaluation of software titles and
other media provided for electronic sale is called an
app store. Most importantly, the application storefront itself offers a consistent, safe environment
that streamlines the electronic procurement, decryption, and installation of software programs and other
digital content.
